This man used to be an amazing athlete; he could’ve been the next Lionel Messi. Alas our all-star shredded his cruciate ligament (1), damaged his knee cartilage, and ruptured his Achilles tendon. Now before we get to that part, people should know that he started a trail with the Rangers at the age of 15, but his history was rattled with injuries. Not only is Gordon Ramsay good in the kitchen, but also on the soccer field. This childish man has many rants and meltdowns on his show, they are legendary and dangerous. His foul mouth is not only known by the adults on his show but also the children. He says, “Don’t worry it’s all bleeped out on the show.” However, Gordon Ramsay is a disgrace to his profession; he is ruining the image of chefs. Gordon Ramsay himself said, “My wife is an ex-school teacher. I think, like any sport, any situation under pressure, when some bad words come out, they get bleeped. I don’t think I swore once across ‘MasterChef Junior.’ " Despite his testimony a young chef on ‘MasterChef Junior’, named Sarah, was quick to correct him and revealed that in fact, he slipped not once, but twice. Gordon was also asked if he was participating in anger management therapy and he was deeply offended, he turned the question to Sarah and glared horrifically at her, anger in his eye. Although the girl is no angel and turned on him like Brutus on Julius Ceasar, she still has rights to a good environment. Who knows what effect Gordon Ramsay has on these young children? Is he shaping their character and making them churlish? Not only is he crude, uses profanity often, has tantrums, but he also is a very sexist man. Most of his employees are men, and one of his previous solitary female employees claims she was treated unfairly and greeted with higher demands. He ultimately makes it harder for the woman to succeed in his business. So maybe he’s stressed, or maybe it’s the cocaine. Not only does he have tantrums, swear frequently, is sexist, does cocaine, but also, he underpays his employees. It is true that his employees get the pleasure of saying I worked with Gordon Ramsay but when they must deal with all his shenanigans they should get paid more. When working in a hostile environment you should get compensation, Gordon Ramsay provides one of them but not the other. He throws pots and pans at his employees, that takes hostile environment to a whole new level. So not only is it hostile but they receive no compensation for their trouble and patience. While Ramsay is a world-renowned chef, his workplace is catastrophic throughout his restaurant. Tash Pericic was the only female chef in one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants. Talia Lakritz wrote about Tash’s experience in the article, “A Former Assistant Manager at Maze Reveals What it’s Really Like to Work for Gordon Ramsay.” In this article by Insider, Tash states, "He was like what you see on 'Kitchen Nightmares.' I saw him throwing pots and pans at staff, and he'd scream at me in the middle of service... There was a night where I had the chef literally standing right in my face, screaming at me, and I had to pretend like that was fine." It is not fair that a person should go through such horrible working conditions. When someone works, they expect a tolerable and positive boss. As always, however, Tash must know that some bosses will be a bit tougher than others, especially ones with standards as high as Ramsay’s. Furthermore, Gordon underpays his staff by about 20 thousand dollars annually. An executive chef in other restaurants earns an average of 59,376 while an executive chef at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant earns an average of merely 32,000. While underpayment in our society isn’t unheard of, you wouldn’t expect to hear of it from a famous, multimillion-dollar chef. Gordon’s work place is disastrous for any variety of people. Ramsay yells at his employees and underpays his staff. People may not know what they are getting into, but at least they can say that they worked for Gordon Ramsay, right? By: Melanie Varela
Gordon Ramsey, television star/ “chef extraordinaire”, is a true robber baron in the life of industry. Mark Paul from the Irish times states, “Ms. Hegarty said television shows such as those featuring celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey glorify bullying behavior and damage the profession’s image.” Paul shows how much Gordon ruins life for other chefs in the cooking industry. Ramsey has also been called out for his excessive use of profanity on his show. This can create a very harsh environment for his contestants. Ramsey runs a children show as well. While the conditions he treats children are much softer, a master chef junior contestant did speak the truth in front of T.V critics. According to Today,” She was also quick to rat Ramsay out in front of TV critics this summer when the chef was grilled about how much he had to contribute to the curse jar on set.” Sarah who is a minor probably didn’t expect this because Ramsey is someone she probably looks up to. Ramsey has truly outlined what a robber baron is as he has become rich in wrong ways. He changes people’s mindset of the cooking industry for the worse. Ramsey’s use of profanity has made the environment for contestants unsafe because they don’t ever know how he will react. |
